Keanu Reeves is making a documentary in which he interviews a bunch of filmmakers about the film vs. digital debate. In case it's not obvious, the advent of digital technology has created a massive debate in the movie world. Is film really better than digital as so many claim? Are the film supporters overly romantic? Are the digital guys lazy? Some directors, like David Fincher (because of the large number of takes he is famous / infamous for) and James Cameron (because of 3D) have long ditched film. Others, like Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan, still favour it. One thing I do know is that times they are-a changin' (ARRI, Panavision and Aaton have
stopped making film cameras all together).
The debate is supremely interesting, and
Side by Side is therefore going to be a must-see for all lovers of movies. In the trailer alone, Reeves interviews names like George Lucas, James Cameron, Steven Soderbergh, Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese. I cannot wait! Hit the jump for the trailer, and thanks to
Collider for leading me to it.
I have one question though. Why Keanu?
