We Need To Talk About 'We Need To Talk About Kevin'
I have been swamped at work so haven't had enough time to do new posts. However, that doesn't mean things haven't been happening! Anyway, in between the chaos I saw that a new, and very beautiful, poster has been released for the Cannes hit We Need To Talk About Kevin. I then also remembered that the trailer was one of the best of the year so far. So, check them out after the break.
The film is directed by Lynne Ramsay, one of the best female directors working today. She previously directed Morvern Callar and Ratcatcher, both of which are outstanding. What I like about her is that she manages to imbue conventional arthouse material with her own unique brand of oddity. Seriously, Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar could both have been ordinary arthouse dramas, but with Ramsay at the helm, the result is something entirely different. If you have seen the movies, you will know what I am talking about. And that brings me to why We Need to Talk About Kevin is going to be so good! First, this poster is unbelievable:
Here is the official synopsis. It seems pretty damn straight forward. Well, watch the trailer and think again:
"Eva puts her ambitions and career aside to give birth to Kevin. The relationship between mother and son is difficult from the very first years. When Kevin is 15, he does something irrational and unforgivable in the eyes of the entire community. Eva grapples with her own feelings of grief and responsibility. Did she ever love her son? And how much of what Kevin did was her fault?"
Oh, and finally, it has 2 of the best actors in the business... Tilda Swinton and John C Reilly.
