Movies to Look Forward to: Martha Marcy May Marlene

Instead of doing one big feature on the movies to look forward to in 2011 (or, in South Africa, possibly 2012), I decided to do it bit by bit. So, to start things off, hit the jump to find out more about one starring what seems to be the best of the Olsen sisters (and it's not an Olsen twin).

Martha Marcy May Marlene premiered to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2011. It tells the story of a damaged young woman who, haunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia, struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult.

Why am I excited? Well, apart from the positive buzz associated with the film since its premiere, the "damaged young woman" is played by Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of the Olsen twins. Apparently she is absolutely brilliant in the movie, and a serious talent to watch out for in future. If that is not enough, the trailer, embedded below, is awesome, and the posters have been pretty incredible.

It opens in the US on 7 October, and in South Africa I don't know when. Sigh. It does not look to be a major awards contender at this stage, but then again, that may be a good thing!
